Eagles post victory over Broncos 65-34

FLOYD – Clovis Christian's boys took control over the final three quarters on Monday night to beat Floyd 65-34.

Senior Carter Teune knocked down three 3-pointers and scored 27 points for the Eagles (8-2), including 11 points in a 24-6 CCS domination of the third period. Junior Jaden Martinez added 16 points and senior Noah Gershon 11.

For the Broncos (2-5), who trailed just 16-14 at the quarter, junior Benton Cain finished with eight points while juniors Isaiah Nieto and Andrew Essary and freshman David Melendez each contributed six tallies.

Lady Cats third in Tucumcari meet – Clovis High's girls placed third in a five-team field on Friday in the Rattler Invite wrestling tournament at Tucumcari.

Tucumcari took the team championship, followed by West Las Vegas, CHS, Borger and Bushland.

Sophomore Jordyn Archuleta notched first place for the Lady Wildcats in the combined 138-145 weight division, posting a second-period pin against Tucumcari freshman Naomi Garcia and winning by first-period fall against senior Krislynn Pacheco of West Las Vegas.

The Lady Cats' other three wrestlers all placed second.

Freshman Zulehiny Mendoza posed a first-period pin against Tucumcari freshman Anasely Ureste but lost by first-period pin to freshman Lizze Castro of Bushland at 107-120. Sophomore Yocelyn Romero lost by third-period pin to Tucumcari junior Sarah Vallejo at 120-126 and posted a 13-11 decision over West Las Vegas freshman Rose Martinez

Meantime, at 152-165, with only two wrestlers competing, Tucumcari sophomore Mikayla Klinger earned a pair of first-period pins against Clovis sophomore Sunnay Ward.

Boys teams competed on Saturday, and the Wildcats placed 13th out of 14 teams in a bracket tournament.

The Cats and Lady Cats return to action on Dec. 29 in the first of four home outings at The Rock, taking on Carlsbad in boys and girls dual matches.
