Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Clovis Municipal Schools (CMS) welcomes five new teachers to the school system by way of a special program created by the state legislature.
CMS partnered with Eastern New Mexico University through House Bill 13 to provide year-long teacher residencies to five ENMU students studying to become certified classroom teachers. This month, these residents were offered full time
teaching positions for the 2023-2024 school year.
The teaching residents were assigned a level three classroom teacher to partner with for this school year as their “mentor teacher.”
Each resident teaches Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and attends classes Wednesdays at ENMU.
House Bill 13 provides ENMU with a $35,000 salary to disburse to each resident. Once the program is complete the residents become certified New Mexico teachers.
The new CMS teachers are: April Sandoval, La Casita-Bilingual and Elementary Education; Yoselin Salazar-Guerro, La Casita-Bilingual and Elementary Education; Amanda Kennedy, Parkview Elementary School-Special Education and Elementary Education; Sindy Granillo, Yucca Middle School-Secondary Education/Science;
Samantha Plascencia, Barry Elementary School-Special Education and Elementary Education.
