LOGAN – Logan and Texico are slated to host this week’s Eastern Plains Athletic Conference basketball tournament.
Logan will be the site for quarterfinal boys and girls matchups today and Thursday before the scene shifts to Texico for semifinals on Friday and final-round matchups on Saturday.
Defending champion Fort Sumner was accorded the top seed on the boys’ side in the eight-team tourney, while Melrose earned the No. 1 spot for the girls. Both will be in action today, with the Foxes (8-2) facing eighth-seeded Floyd (3-5) at 4:30 p.m. and the Lady Buffs (9-1) taking on their Floyd counterparts (2-4) at 3 p.m.
Other quarterfinal tilts today send second-seeded Dora (9-1) against No. 7 Elida (3-6) at 7:30 p.m. for the boys and No. 2 Fort Sumner (6-4) against seventh-seeded Elida (1-7) for the girls.
Quarterfinal matchups on Thursday have No. 5 Dora (8-4) against No. 4 Texico (5-7) at 3 p.m. and sixth-seeded Grady (3-3) against third seed Logan (8-5) at 6 p.m. for the girls, while No. 5 Texico (8-4) battles fourth-seeded Melrose (7-2) at 4:30 p.m. and No. 6 Grady (3-3) faces third-seeded Logan (9-3) at 7:30 p.m. for the boys.
On Friday at Texico, consolation semifinals are slated to start at 9 a.m., with the four championship semis to follow. Saturday’s eight-game slate begins with seventh-place matchups at 8 (girls) and 9:45 a.m. (boys) and wraps up with the championship tilts at 6:30 (girls) and 8:15 p.m. (boys).
In last year’s title clashes at Texico, the Foxes connected for 15 3-point baskets and held on late to edge Melrose 72-70, while Logan claimed its second consecutive EPAC girls crown with a 42-36 victory over Fort Sumner.
