CLOVIS – Junior Kaden Stoner collected six 3-pointers and finished with 20 points on Saturday as Logan defeated Clovis Christian 69-53 in District 6-1A boys basketball.
Three of his trifectas came in the second quarter when the Longhorns (14-6, 1-1 district) outscored the Eagles 21-10 to open a 13-point halftime margin. For the game, the Longhorns posted 11 3-point baskets.
Junior Brock Burns added 15 points, all but two coming in the second half. Senior Carter Teune had 31 points for CCS (13-4, 1-1), including all four of the team’s 3s which came in the second half.
In other area boys games on Saturday:
Eunice 66, Dora 46 – At Eunice, the Cardinals’ big quarter was the second, when they outscored Dora 21-8 to open a 19-point halftime lead.
Junior Blake Blevins led four players in double digits for Eunice (11-4) with 23 points, followed by junior Jorge Gomez with 16 points, sophomore Luis Gomez with 13 and junior Ashton Thompson with 12. Senior Steven Masini paced Dora (12-5) with 20 points and junior Cole Kircher chipped in 14.
Fort Sumner 75, Grady 47 – The Foxes (17-2, 2-0 District 6-1A) held the Bronchos to eight first-half points, including none in the second quarter.
Junior Seth Saiz led four Fort Sumner players in double digits with 16 points, while junior Joaquin Segura had 12 and senior Clay Norman and eighth-grader Jordan Holland chipped in 11 apiece. Grady (5-9, 0-2) got 15 points from eighth-grader Zander Ciancio and 12 from junior Zane Rush.
In girls matchups on Saturday:
Eunice 39, Dora 30 – The homestanding Lady Cardinals (6-6) opened an eight-point lead by outscoring Dora 9-4 in the third frame. Sophomore Alondra Morin led Eunice with 12 points, while junior Faith Jasso took game honors with 14 for the Lady Coyotes (10-8).
Fort Sumner 68, Grady 35 – At Grady, the Vixens (11-6, 1-1 District 6-1A) outscored the homestanding Lady Bronchos 40-18 over the middle two periods to assume control.
Senior Olivia Lucero poured in 22 points for Fort Sumner, and sophomores Allyssa and Emmarie Casaus had 14 and eight points, respectively. Junior Shayla White posted a 20-point outing for Grady (8-7, 0-1) that included 7-for-7 from the free throw line, while junior Taylor Foote had 11 tallies and sophomore Juanita Ramirez eight.
