Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Charles Nwankwo has officially resigned as president of Clovis Community College, according to the college's attorney, Kameron Barnett.
Barnett said Nwankwo signed a resignation agreement on Monday, accompanied by his attorney, Chris Moody of Albuquerque.
Nwankwo will be paid for the remainder of his contract, Barnett said. His contract had been extended to Feb. 17, 2024. His annual salary is about $185,000.
In addition, Barnett said, Nwankwo's health insurance will remain in place until either he finds another position or his contract runs out.
Asked whether Nwankwo would be prevented from taking legal action against CCC, Barnett said, "Yes. All matters were settled."
Nwankwo could not be reached for comment.
CCC officials did not immediately respond to a public records request seeking documents related to Nwankwo's resignation.
Trustees on Feb. 1 voted unanimously to accept Nwankwo's resignation.
Acting President Robin Jones will remain in the acting role at least until the board's next regular meeting, scheduled for March 1, the board decided at its Feb. 1 meeting.
Nwankwo has been on paid administrative leave since Aug. 3.
The trustees acknowledged in late November they had received an investigative report they requested from the Albuquerque law office of Cuddy & McCarthy, which capped an investigation that began in May. Trustees have declined to release a copy of that report.
The investigation followed the board's receipt of letters of "no confidence" in Nwankwo's leadership from three professional employee groups on campus.
Nwankwo was hired as the college's fifth president in October 2019, and he joined CCC in February 2020.
Nwankwo came to CCC after five years at Chandler Gilbert Community College in Arizona.
