Clovis police seek suspect in hotel robbery

Clovis police are asking for the public's help in finding a man suspected of robbing the Best Western Hotel just off Mabry Drive early in the morning of Feb. 15.

Anthony Martinez, 52, has been identified by Clovis police as the suspect in the case.

According to a news release from police Capt. Robbie Telles, the robbery was reported at the Best Western Hotel at 201 Schepps Blvd. a little after 2:30 a.m. Feb. 15.

Telles reported the Clovis Police Department, Special Operations Unit was called to the scene and began an investigation into the robbery.

The investigator spoke with the employee who reported the suspect kept his hand in his jacket pocket causing the employee to believe the suspect had a weapon in his pocket.

The male demanded the clerk open the cash drawer or he would "pull it out," indicating he would get the weapon out of his pocket. The clerk complied, the suspect jumped over the counter, took the money, and left the hotel in a southward direction, the direction of Mabry Drive, police said.

Telles reported during the course of the investigation, the detective was able to identify Martinez as the suspect in this robbery.

Based on the information received, Telles wrote, an affidavit for an arrest warrant was prepared and a warrant for the arrest of Martinez was issued with the charge of robbery, a third-degree felony.

Telles reports Martinez has not been located and "is still on the run."
