CLOVIS – Clovis Christian knocked down a dozen 3-point shots on Monday night and the Eagles posted a 65-51 victory over Grady in the opening round of the District 6-1A tournament.
Senior Noah Gershon had three 3s and finished with 19 points for the fourth-seeded Eagles (18-9), while senior O.B. Blanco added four treys and tied a personal best with 17 points. Senior Carter Teune also reached double digits with 11 points for CCS, which played at third-seeded Logan on Tuesday night.
For the fifth-seeded Bronchos (7-16), junior Zane Rush tallied 13 points, senior Carlos Marin had 11 and sophomore Deakin Ragland chipped in 10.
In girls district tournament openers on Monday:
Elida 34, Floyd 32 – At Elida, the fourth-seeded Lady Tigers advanced in District 4-1A, holding off the Lady Broncos down the stretch. Elida (5-15) travels to second-seeded Gateway Christian (6-12) in a 6 p.m. semifinal tilt tonight, with that winner going to the finals at Dora (17-9) on Friday.
Freshman Hattie Bilbrey scored 14 points to pace the Lady Tigers, while Floyd (2-16) got 17 points from sophomore Nevaeha Brown and nine from junior Jona Baros.
In a District 6-1A matchup at Logan, the third-seeded Lady Longhorns (17-10) posted a 67-39 win over No. 4 Grady (10-13). Logan travels to Fort Sumner for a semifinal clash tonight.
