Suspect apprehended in Best Western Hotel robbery

Clovis police have arrested the man suspected of robbing the Best Western Hotel just off Mabry Drive early in the morning of Feb. 15.

Clovis Police Department Captain Robbie Telles reports via a news release Anthony Martinez, 52, was arrested Wednesday evening.

According to Telles, the robbery was reported at the Best Western Hotel at 201 Schepps Blvd. a little after 2:30 a.m. Feb. 15.

A police investigator spoke with the employee who reported the suspect kept his hand in his jacket pocket causing the employee to believe the suspect had a weapon in his pocket.

The male demanded the clerk open the cash drawer or he would “pull it out,” indicating he would get the weapon out of his pocket. The clerk complied, the suspect jumped over the counter, took the money, and left the hotel in a southward direction, the direction of Mabry Drive, police said.

Telles reported during the course of the investigation, the detective was able to identify Martinez as the suspect in this robbery.

Telles wrote Martinez was located hiding inside the attic area of a residence in Clovis. Officers were able to talk Martinez out of the attic and he was taken to the Clovis Police Department where he spoke with a detective and admitted his involvement in the robbery.

Telles wrote the Clovis Police Department is “extremely grateful” to the citizens of Clovis for the support and assistance in locating and getting Martinez into custody.
