AMARILLO – One down, possibly six to go for Farwell's boys.
The Steers made short work of Hale Center in their Class 2A bi-district round tilt at West Plains H.S., posting a 70-38 victory over the Owls.
Farwell (26-4) led 35-11 at halftime and was never threatened in extending its winning streak to 19 games. Junior Corey Stancell led three Steers in double figures with 16 points, while sophomore Ryder McElroy had 13 and freshman Braddock Foster 11.
For Hale Center (13-15), sophomore Aidan Baldridge tallied eight points.
In other Tuesday boys contests:
Floydada 75, Bovina 67 – The Whirlwinds (32-5) pretty much got all they wanted from the gritty Mustangs in a Class 2A opener, but survived primarily with the help of sophomore Jake Hobbs, who shot 15-of-22 from the floor and finished with 26 points.
The third quarter was key as Floydada outscored the Mustangs 22-9 to break away from a halftime tie. Senior Abran Castillo went 7-for-11 from the floor for 14 points, and sophomore Tyrean Henderson added 10.
Senior Ceasar Amaya funneled in 27 points for Bovina (16-16), while junior Michael Nieto had 11 and senior Nathan Guevara 10.
Logan 72, Clovis Christian 58 – The host Longhorns opened an 11-point halftime lead with a 20-point second quarter and were able to keep the Eagles at bay in a District 6-1A matchup.
Junior Brock Burns converted six 3-pointers and finished with 23 points for Logan (17-10), while freshman Mason Wallin chipped in 15. For CCS (18-10), senior Carter Teune went 16-for-18 from the foul line en route to 28 points while senior Noah Gershon had 12.
In a District 4-1A boys matchup on Tuesday, Gateway Christian (5-17) claimed a 44-42 win over Floyd (5-15).
For the girls, Farwell (29-6) saw its season come to an end on Tuesday with a 51-39 loss to Gruver (22-2) in a Texas Class 2A regional semifinal game, while Elida (4-16) was eliminated in the District 4-1A girls tournament on Wednesday within a 43-16 loss at Gateway Christian (7-12).
