Family pavilion, other improvements planned for Texico Cemetery

A new family pavilion is planned for the Texico Cemetery, according to Cemetery Board President Dan Pearce.

"It will provide comfort and care for families during their time of need," Pearce wrote in a news release.

Pearce pointed out detriments to graveside services are extreme cold and heat.

"The new structure will have insulated walls to protect from the cold, wind and heat," Pearce wrote. "A metal building with lights and fans as well as three garage doors for families having overflow crowds."

Pearce wrote the building will have sidewalks and parking.

Pearce noted in his news release the cemetery board has pledged to match funds up to $5,000 and donations are tax deductible.

Pearce also wrote about the creation of a columbarium for cremated remains or "cremains."

Pearce wrote there will be 48 vaults that provide space for up to two urns of ashes for $650.

"Two cremains can be placed in each vault," Pearce wrote.

Pearce invited those who are interested to send their donations to: Texico Cemetery Board, P.O. Box 208, Texico, NM 88135.
