Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Starting Wednesday, Seventh Street will be closed between Ross and North Main Streets for five months.
K. Barnett and Sons, the construction company that has been working on the Seventh Street Reconstruction from Prince Street to Maple Street, is in “Phase C.”
Project Engineer Daniel Lyons said, “We’re putting in a new storm drain system for the city.”
However, the work doesn’t end there. Lyons said they are also working on new pavement, sidewalks, and curbs.
For reference, Lyons said that the entire project, when it’s completed, should look like the section just west of Sycamore to Norris St. where the pavement is smooth and turning lanes are clearly marked.
He said the project has been a part of discussion with the city for quite some time, and they officially began at the beginning of November. Lyons said the end goal is to be done by August, but “hopefully before then,” he said.
Right now, the focus for them is to get the intersection at Prince and Seventh streets reopened “as quickly as possible,” as this section sees the most traffic.
Lyons said that they will have detour routes posted during each phase’s closures. The company asks for drivers to use Sixth Street And Eighth Street for residential and business access during this closure. Lyons also suggests citizens stay updated through the ads they have in the paper and the posts on the city’s social media pages.
