Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
A written threat led to a Clovis school being put into “Secure and Teach” mode Thursday morning followed by early release on Thursday afternoon.
The school issued the following statement:
"At the advice of law enforcement, the decision has been made to release students early today, Thursday, April 13, 2023, in the interest of enabling an ongoing investigation into a potential threat discovered by the staff at Clovis High School Freshman Academy this morning.
"While no imminent danger has been identified through preliminary investigation, the campus remains secured and entry is restricted to staff and emergency responders only.
"– Anyone arriving at the campus to pick up students is expected to remain in their vehicles and comply with directions given by staff or law enforcement.
"– We ask that phone calls be limited to student release information so that our staff can effectively facilitate the release of students. Additional information will be provided as appropriate.
"– Details regarding the dismissal of students have been emailed directly to parents/guardians.
"Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated."
School officials said earlier Thursday that the district became aware of a "written threat" at the Freshman Academy at 10:20 a.m.
Administrators called for the campus to be placed in Secure & Teach, and contacted law enforcement to investigate.
