CANYON, Texas – Two Eastern New Mexico University athletes bettered their own school records over the weekend in West Texas A&M’s Jo Meaker Classic track meet.
Junior Timothy Frederick, from Trinidad & Tobago, beat out his previous mark in the 400 by .09 seconds, running 46.94 to take third place in the event.
Also, senior Tamia Smith placed fourth in women’s shot put at 44 feet, 5 ¼ inches, good for fourth place.
Other entries placing in the top eight for the men included junior Ethan Woodrome, second in the 1,500 in 4 minutes, 37.25 seconds; sophomore Luis Holguin, fourth in pole vault at 12-9 ½; junior Jude Murray, eighth in javelin at 149-3, and the 1,600 relay team, fourth in 3:27.61 with Frederick, senior Devins Cheruiyot, freshman John Magee and Holguin.
For the women, top-eight finishers included freshman Mahault Lebrun, seventh in the 400 in 1 minute, 6.53 seconds; the 400 relay team of sophomore Jaliyah Denny, freshman Meghan Rodriguez, Lebrun and freshman Ashlynn Evans, also seventh in 47.86, and the 1,600 relay team of Lebrun, Rodriguez, senior Kaylyn De La Rosa and junior Savannah Romero, fifth in 4:08.85.
The school has announced a couple of changes in its upcoming schedule. Originally slated to compete in New Mexico Junior College’s Ross Black Relays on Friday and Saturday, the Hounds will now split their squad to compete in that event as well as the University of Oklahoma’s Sooner Invitational at Norman, Okla.
The following week, ENMU has replaced Lubbock Christian’s LCU Open with WT’s Buffalo Invitational.
