Naming contest announced for kangaroos

Hillcrest Park Zoo announced Monday via social media that they are holding a naming contest for their newest additions, the baby kangaroos.

The joeys, a male and female, moved into the Clovis Zoo in February. They are not yet available for public viewing but should be in the near future.

The contest for naming the kangaroos began on Tuesday, and will go through April 28 at 4 p.m.

Submitting a name suggestion is easy. Visit cityofclovis.org/kangaroo and click "submit your bid."

According to the webpage, "The largest marsupial, the red kangaroo is probably one of the best known of Australia's native animals, living in small groups in the dry central areas. An adult male stands over 5 ft 10 in and can weigh up to 198 lb. He can tower over a tall person. Total length of the head and body averages about 3.8 ft with an average tail length of about 2.9 ft. Females are much smaller, with an average weight of about 58 lb."
