Lady Cats fourth, Cats eighth in Artesia tourney

ARTESIA – Clovis High’s girls were fourth while the boys came in eighth in Monday’s Artesia Invite golf tournament.

The Lady Wildcats shot 364, trailing Hobbs by three shots, while the boys posted a four-man score of 363.

Three CHS girls finished under 90, led by Jolei Adkins and Kiaya Gallegos with 87s, while Kayleigh Maldonado followed at 88.

All five boys managed to break 100 for the day. Gavin Anderson led the Cats at 87 and Jakob Stone followed at 89.

Lovington took both team titles, the boys shooting 308 to 317 for Hobbs while the girls tallied 323 for a seven-shot margin over Alamogordo. Medalists were Lovington’s Levi Hobson at one-under 71 for the boys and Corynn Speer of Alamo with a 75 for the girls.

CHS squads were slated to compete on Tuesday in a tournament hosted by Dexter at New Mexico Military’s golf course. On Monday, they’ll host the Wildcat Invitational at Colonial Park Golf Course.
