Area squads compete in Roswell meets

ROSWELL – Portales High’s girls finished fourth in the five-team Coyote Classic, hosted by Roswell High on Thursday at Spring River Golf Course.

Hobbs took girls team honors with a score of 362, while the Lady Rams came in at 460. Hobbs also captured the top spot in the boys’ portion of the meet, shooting 326.

Junior Paige Yazzie led Portales’ girls at 56-49 – 105. The medalist for the girls was Falyn Lackey of Hobbs, who shot 84.

On the boys’ side, sophomore Stratton Seifert finished at 51-57 – 108 for the Rams. Hobbs had the boys medalist in Tripten Roberts, who shot 76.

Lady Cats third – In another tournament played on Tuesday in Roswell, Clovis High’s girls finished third in the Alien 8 event, hosted by Dexter H.S. at the New Mexico Military golf course.

The Lady Cats shot a team score of 394 to trail Roswell Goddard (340) and Hobbs (356) in a seven-team field. Senior Jolei Adkins led CHS at 46-40 – 87, followed by senior Kiaya Gallegos at 48-49 – 97.

Texico followed with a season-best 404, paced by Liz Elam at 41-45 – 86 and Sophie Schaap at 49-47 – 96. Portales was fifth at 450, with Yazzie again leading the Lady Rams at 51-46 – 97.

Lackey was also the girls medalist in this meet with a score of 74.

Clovis Christian came in fifth at 336 while Clovis was sixth at 347 in a nine-team boys field. Hobbs took team honors at 311, followed by Goddard at 316.

Junior Noah McKay shot a season-best 38-41 – 79 for the Eagles, as did senior Carter Teune with a 37-44 – 81.

Hobbs was also the boys’ medalist for this event at even-par 72.

CHS will host its Wildcat Invitational on Monday at Colonial Park Golf Course, with Portales, Texico and CCS also among the participants.
