Fire calls garner attention

People in the Sunrise area on the south side of Clovis were wondering about those explosions they heard Sunday morning.

“Those were exploding tires from a vehicle fire,” Clovis Fire Department (CFD) Battalion Chief Chris Elam said.

Elam said CFD personnel and vehicles were called out to the blaze in an alley near the 600 block of Dawn Loop Sunday at about 9:40 a.m.

“It was a 2015 Toyota Tacoma stolen from Roosevelt County,” Elam said. “It was a total loss.”

The fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office.

Elam also offered details on another weekend blaze that had the attention of area residents.

A garage fire at a house at 1929 Cameo Street Saturday at about 3:30 p.m. had some people wondering if a family had been displaced.

“The family that had been living there had left some days earlier,” Elam said. “It’s a rental property and it was empty.”

Elam said the cause of the blaze is unknown.

“Damage was contained to the garage,” Elam said.

No one was injured in either incident.
