Clough, Archuleta, Patterson honored

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Freshman left fielder Jonatan Clough and sophomore second baseman Demetrio Archuleta earned spots on the All-Lone Star Conference baseball team, announced on Wednesday prior to the start of the LSC’s four-team, double-elimination tournament.

Clough, from the Dominican Republic, was chosen to the second team while Archuleta, from Farmington, claimed third-team honors.

Batting cleanup, Clough proved to be one of the LSC’s top power hitters, leading the Greyhounds in triples (five) while finishing second in the league in home runs (18), runs batted in (69), slugging percentage (.762) and batting average (.348). Thirty-four of his 63 hits went for extra bases, while he also drew a team-high 25 walks and was hit by a pitch 12 times for an on-base percentage of .457.

Archuleta, in his first season at ENMU, led the team in hits (65), batting average (.371), doubles (12) and runs scored (50), to go with 43 RBIs. In the field, he was second in the LSC in assists (122) and was a part of 23 double plays.

ENMU finished the season 23-28, including 21-26 in conference play. The Hounds were eliminated in the best-of-3 first round of the LSC tournament by Angelo State.

Individual awards went to West Texas A&M senior third baseman Adam Becker, player of the year; Angelo State junior left-hander Kade Bragg, pitcher of the year, St. Edward’s sophomore first baseman Lance Little, newcomer of the year, and Texas-Tyler freshman designated hitter Kaston Mason, freshman of the year.

Meantime, Angelo earned its second consecutive honor as the coaching staff of the year, with head coach Kevin Brooks and assistants Adam Foster, Sam Mote and Riley Peterson. The Rams entered the three-day tournament this weekend with a 44-8 record, including 40-8 in the LSC.

Patterson recognized – ENMU senior right fielder Mikenzey Patterson has been named to the second-team All-South Central Region second team, announced this week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Patterson. also a second-team All-LSC selection, emerged as a difference-maker this season. Batting leadoff, she posted a team-best .390 average for the season, leading the conference in triples (five) and the team in batting average, runs scored (44) and stolen bases (20), all top-10 marks in the league.

“Mikenzey is so deserving of this award,” second-year ENMU coach Amanda Fefel said. “I’m so proud of the role she played being a table-setter in our lineup.”

The Roswell High grad ranks fourth in program history in career stolen bases (39) and is tied for third in triples (eight).
