Opinion: Sorties can only result in catastrophe

Many people watch network or cable television exclusively for information on what is happening locally, state wide, nationally and internationally.

Many other people obtain their news information from major printed newspapers as they appear on the internet.

Over the years the “news” and the reporter’s “opinion” have become blurred almost to the point where viewers cannot determine where the news ends and the opinion starts.

Here’s a thought exercise that contains some news:

On May 24, the carrier, USS Gerald Ford and its escorts docked in Oslo for what local media reported to be the first such carrier port call in Norway in 65 years. The Norwegian press reported that carrier group would join aircraft and vessels from NATO countries for the start of the Arctic Challenge Exercise on May 29.

On 12 June, NATO will launch “Air Defender 23,” consisting of 100 U.S. Air National Guard aircraft from 35 different states, and more than 20 different types of aircraft and airmen from 24 nations, for a total of more than 200 aircraft. “This is the largest deployment exercise since the foundation of NATO,” according to NATO headquarters. The Germans state that they plan about 250 sorties a day “to show force at NATO’s eastern flank.”

Here’s some analysis:

The Russians believe that the BALTOPS NATO exercise last June was used to conceal planting the explosives that blew up the Nord Stream pipelines.

The Ukrainians are being pressured to start their long-awaited offensive.

NATO Arctic Challenge and Air Defender are designed to encircle Russia, a country they are involved in a proxy war with. This couldn’t happen without coordination by NATO and the collective west at the highest levels.

Here’s some opinion:

What could go wrong? Almost everything. About 250 NATO combat sorties conducted on the edge of an active war zone while involved in a proxy war with one of the combatants can only result in catastrophe, particularly if one of the aircraft involved strays into the war zone.

Some readers may dislike my opinions. I try to remember that it doesn’t matter what I want or what I like, my job is to look at the facts, present the situation as it is, and opine where I think these facts will lead. I may not always be correct in my analysis, but I am not in the business of propaganda. What you read here is, “The Gospel According to Rube.”
