One wounded, two teens charged in north Clovis home shoot-up

Two juveniles have been arrested after allegedly unleashing a hail of gunfire at a Clovis home at 2501 N. Axtell St. Wednesday afternoon.

The names of the suspects have not been released because of their juvenile status.

Clovis Police Dispatch Center got a call at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday about shots fired in the area of 2501 N. Axtell St. That call was “almost immediately” followed by a second call, reporting a gunshot victim at this same residence, this according to a news release from CPD Capt. Robbie Telles.

CPD officers responded to the location where they were able to locate a 15-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his arm. He was located in the living room of the home.

Clovis Fire Department EMS were on the scene and transported the victim to Plains Regional Medical Center where he was treated for the gunshot injury. The gunshot injury to the male does not appear to be life-threatening, according to Telles.

According to a report filed by CPD Officer Jeremy Smith he observed five people in the home, three males and two females. Smith reported all the occupants were scared to come near the rear windows because they didn’t know where the shooters were.

Smith was one of the officers who investigated the crime scene in the alley behind the home.

“We were able to find 17 hand gun casings and one shotgun casing,” Smith reported.

The shooting is being investigated by the Clovis Police Department Special Operations Unit, and with assistance from the patrol officers on shift, along with the Clovis Police Department SWAT team.

Telles reports while checking the area, four persons of interest were located at a residence in the 2100 block of Axtell Street. Two of the juvenile suspects were identified as the persons involved in this shooting. The two juveniles ages 16 and 17 were arrested for shooting at a dwelling or occupied building with great bodily harm, tampering with evidence, aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony, conspiracy, and criminal damage.

Telles reports this is still an active investigation and any person with information about this incident is urged to call CPD at (575) 769-1921.

Telles added that information can be reported anonymously by using the Clovis Police Tip411 App or by calling the Curry County Crimes Stoppers at (575) 763-7000.
