Spay-neuter clinic coming in July

A low-cost spay and neuter clinic is set to come to Clovis as the High Plains Humane Society has partnered up with Soul Dog Rescue, a non-profit animal rescue organization, to bring the mobile clinic to the community. Appointments are done by email on a first come, first serve basis with 80 slots available.

Gaye Cooke, vice president of High Plains Humane Society said that their goal has always been to tackle overpopulation by reopening spay and neuter clinics. Cooke said that there is a high demand for veterinarian services in the community, to which there isn’t enough services to go around especially since the pandemic.

“There is a very high low-income population here that cannot afford vet care, so that’s the part we are trying to concentrate on. Is to help our community, the lower-income community, be able to afford spay and neuter for their animals,” Cooke said.

Cooke said that the clinic is not trying to take away business from the vet, instead High Plains Humane Society is fulfilling a need to prevent animals from ending up on the streets and overpopulating.

There are discussions in hosting more low-cost spay and neuter clinic dates, Cooke said, but final dates have yet to be decided. In the meantime, Cooke encourages the community to volunteer at their local shelter and to help supply their pet food supplies for low-income pet owners.

According to the group’s website and social media postings, the clinic will be providing a number of services to cats and dogs, regardless of their gender. Vaccine walk-ins are also welcomed for both of the days so long as it is between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

• Canine 1-DAPPv - Free

• Feline 1-HCP - Free

• Rabies vaccination - $15

Appointments must be requested by email at [email protected] to sign up for the July 22 and 23 clinic. Information about you and your pet will be required. Payment is due when scheduled.
