Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The Clovis Community College (CCC) Board of Trustees voted unanimously Wednesday to seek proposals from multiple entities to assist in their search for CCC’s next president.
The board then voted to appoint Trustee Jan Bradburn and Chair Lora Harlan to seek out the proposals. The proposals will include the cost, what each company is going to do, and the timeframe each can provide.
“We realize that the biggest duty that we have as a board of trustees is upon us right now as we search for a new president,” Harlan said during the meeting.
Harlan explained the goal of Wednesday’s special meeting was to decide if the board wanted to go through with seeking out multiple entities that could assist them in deciding on a new president.
CCC attorney Kameron Barnett told the board there were multiple agencies and consulting firms that he and Robin Jones, acting CCC president, had looked into, including: The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), Academic Search, RH Perry and Associates, and Academic Search Group.
“There are a few that claim they specialize only in community colleges,” Barnett said to the board. “There’s a few that are more primarily towards four-year institutions.”
Barnett said the majority of these companies will assist with either, however.
Trustee Terry Martin explained that based on his experience with past CCC presidential searches, once the board gets the full list of interested candidates, board members will sit down with staff and narrow it down to two or three candidates for interviews.
“We don’t have to rush. We have a good staff right now,” Martin said.
However, the board agreed that the sooner they can get the president position filled, the better.
Charles Nwanko, the most recent president for the institution, was placed on administrative leave last August and officially resigned earlier this year. Jones has been serving as the interim president since then.
