When will Clovis’ Seventh Street Project be completed? Is there more construction coming for Seventh Street west of Main Street?

“The project is scheduled to be done this October pending any unforeseen delays or weather delays,” Clovis City Manager Justin Howalt said.

As for exactly what has been done to Seventh Street between North Prince and Main Street Howalt said the roadway is undergoing “full depth reconstruction.”

“The subgrade is being stabilized with lime to reduce cracking and pavement failures, along with new base course and hot-mix asphalt,” Howalt said.

He said in addition to the roadway structure, new sidewalks, “Americans with Disability Act” improvements, and intersection lighting are being installed.

“The traffic signal at North Prince and Seventh streets has been replaced along with the addition of illuminated street name signs,” Howalt said.

He said new drainage work is part of the project.

“New storm drainage along the corridor will carry rainfall runoff. The existing clay pipe sanitary sewer line has been replaced with PVC,” Howalt said.

Howalt added the water company that serves Clovis, EPCOR, is also replacing older water lines within the corridor.

“The final section of the roadway will consist of bike lanes, two through lanes, and a two-way center left turn lane. This is the same typical section that is to the east of the Seventh and North Prince intersection, the portion of the project that has already been completed,” Howalt said.

Howalt said once the Main to North Prince Street project is complete, no more construction along Seventh Street is scheduled.

“The storm drain system has been planned to continue west to Reid Street; however, at this time there are not any plans to complete a full design or construct,” Howalt said.

While some in the community had expressed concern over the bricks on Main Street displaced by the Seventh Street project, Howalt said they have been taken care of.

“They have been safely stored and will be reinstalled at the close of the project,” Howalt said.
