One man was left with a gunshot wound to his leg early Tuesday after a verbal altercation apparently turned violent in Clovis.
Clovis Police Department stated in a news release that at shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday, officers found Loydale Kirven, 52, suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg after responding to a call to the area of Eighth Street and Sheldon Street.
Officers administered emergency first aid to Kirven, who was then transported to Plains Regional Medical Center for advanced medical care.
In an affidavit of arrest warrant filed against J.D. Pringle, a suspect in the shooting, police stated:
• Under police questioning, Kirven said was leaving a house he had visited after having a “bad feeling,” when was confronted by Pringle and another man he knew only as “Dan” after the men got out of a white Chevy car with no bumpers.
• The two men accused Kirven of touching a female subject Kirven said he did not know.
• Kirven told police the confrontation turned physical when Pringle produced a handgun and “pistol whipped” Kirven in the face after Kirven resisted. Kirven said Pringle then fired the handgun, striking Kirven in the leg.
• After questioning Kirven at the hospital, Clovis Police Sgt. Thomas Colvin stated he returned to the incident scene and discovered three spent shell casings from a nine-millimeter handgun.
• Police found the weapon used after executing a warranted search.
Pringle was apprehended and jailed on Thursday, the Clovis Police news release stated.
Before he was arrested, third-degree felony charges of aggravated battery with great bodily harm and receipt, and transportation or possession of a firearm by a felon were filed against Pringle in Curry County Magistrate Court, court records show.
