Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Candidate filing day last week revealed contested races for seats on the Clovis school board, the Portales City Council, the Portales school board and numerous other elected positions in Curry and Roosevelt counties.
Election Day is Nov. 7.
Write-in candidates can still file. In Curry County, signup can be completed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Curry County Clerk’s Office, 417 Gidding St., Clovis. Roosevelt County write-in candidates may sign up at the Roosevelt County Clerk’s Office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, 109 W. First St., Portales.
Early voting begins Oct. 10 in both counties. The last day for early voting is Nov. 4.
On the Clovis school board, District 3’s incumbent Paul Cordova will face off against Catherine Cobb, and District 5’s incumbent Terry Martin will be challenged by Nathan McCreery.
There will be two contestants for seats on the Portales City Council. In Ward B, Rustin Self will challenge incumbent Daniel Boan, and in Ward C, Eldon Merrick will challenge incumbent Chadrick Heflin.
On the Portales school board, District 1’s Rod Savage is not running, but two candidates, Cade Skinner and Doug Pfaffenberger have filed to run for Savage’s seat. In District 2, Brent Small will challenge incumbent Inez Rodriguez.
