Lady Rams dominate early, sweep Dexter

Portales High's volleyball team got off to a fast start on Tuesday and cruised to a 25-4, 25-21, 25-17 victory over Dexter in the Lady Rams' home opener at the Ram Athletic Center.

Senior Audrey Paden had team highs of 12 kills and five aces for Portales, while junior Evannie Fulfer notched 11 kills and junior Skyler Massey added six kills and four digs. Junior Myleigh Banda combined 24 assists, six digs and three aces, senior Brenna Jewell had 12 digs and two aces and junior Angel Ornelas posted five digs and two aces.

First-year Lady Rams coach Bailey Greenwalt said her team played well in general against the Lady Demons (4-3).

"We did a lot of good things," she said. "Audrey hit well for us, and then went back and served well."

For Dexter (4-3), junior Lanissa Carrillo and freshman Danyela Munoz each had five kills while junior Alexa Miramontes was in on six blocks.

The Lady Rams were in Moriarty on Friday and Saturday for a 16-team tournament, with four pools of four teams each followed by consolation and championship bracket play. The tourney also included Clovis and Texico.

Next up for the Lady Rams is a 6:30 p.m. Tuesday date at Roswell High.
