Nearly 3,500 visit Clovis Municipal Airport for Wings 'N' Wheels event
Clovis Regional Airport filled its runways with nearly 3,500 people on Saturday for the third Wings 'N' Wheels, said Megan Darrow, the city's marketing and communications coordinator.
Guests explored the runways to look at 160 different hot rods and 15 competitive aircraft.
"Thank you so much to the community and patrons who came to the airport and had a great time with us. We look forward to growing this event and evolving it into something that is new and exciting each year," said Amanda Brungart, the airport's director.
Brungart said she hopes to invite more aircraft next year to showcase the improvements the airport has to offer. She said the airport is working to secure funding to construct new terminals, resurface taxiways and build new hangars.
"It's an exciting time for the airport. We're looking forward to meeting the demands of travelers and adding new destinations for our community," Brungart said.
Darrow said the airport offered 10 gallons of fuel to the first 20 planes that arrived. It also hosted its first t-shirt design contest in July. Danielle Leach, winner of the graphic design competition, said the event was fun and exciting. Darrow said organizers sold $940 worth of t-shirts that displayed the brilliant gray and gold design Leach created.
Two roundtrip tickets on Denver Air were raffled for guests who signed up.
