Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The EPCOR water company is helping the city of Texico operate and evaluate the city’s water system’s reliability under a contract between the city and the water company that provides EPCOR the opportunity to acquire the system in the future.
EPCOR already provides water service to the city of Clovis.
EPCOR's Senior Communications Advisor Matt Atwood said the contract allows EPCOR to make a plan with the city of Texico to ensure the system is in compliance with drinking water standards.
"But (purchasing the system) is not a done deal as we still continue to evaluate the operational reliability of (the system) and … see what the city of Texico wants to do moving forward," Atwood said.
The city and EPCOR agreed to the contract on an emergency basis, effective Sept. 1.
Atwood said EPCOR wants to make it clear to Texico residents that the company is working hard to ensure the reliability of the water delivery.
"We have continuously worked with the city and the state, putting forward the best plan for (Texico residents)," he said, adding that any billing or related questions still need to be directed to the city.
"We are a committed partner with the city and making sure that we continue to provide excellent service to the Texico residents," Atwood said.
Texico City Clerk Connie Harrison said Monday the current agreement will not affect city water rates but she would not respond to questions about the cost to the city of the contract or what brought on the emergency situation in Texico.
