Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Nov. 3, 1932 - Oct. 10, 2023
Graveside services for Victoria Mickey Pinkston will be 10:00 am Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Terry County Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Chris Seaton officiating.
Mickey was born to William and Parlee Starnes in New Home, on November 3, 1932. She passed away at her home in Brownfield on October 10, 2023. She was a tiny, vibrant woman who made friends everywhere she went. She played the piano and the spoons (bluegrass style), painted, did magnificent counted cross-stitch, and arranged flowers. She taught her granddaughter how to make pecan pie, to crochet, and to trust her intuition.
She learned to cook as an Air Force wife while living in Hawaii and Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands and brought great precision to those old homestyle recipes. She was THE BEST cook. She chose her own name, Victoria Mickey. The youngest of three daughters, she was born to a West Texas rancher who so badly wanted a son that he named her Victor Merle.
Mickey is preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Jay Pinkston, her parents, and three sisters, Betty Fitzgerald, Virginia "Dutch" McElory, and Alice Roberts.
Mickey is survived by her two children, Sam Skinner and Dr. Rebecca Lee Monroe; four grandchildren; Matt Skinner, Summer Russo, Brandy Peterson, Josh Wood; six great-grandchildren; and two very good friends, Angela Perez and Ross Taylor.
