Portales Walmart named 'Business of the Month'

The Portales Walmart was named “Business of the Month” for October by the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce.

It was chosen after a large, destructive fire Sept. 3 at the Clovis Walmart. Associates from both stores were thrown together that morning so the Portales store could serve customers from both communities.

The situation was somewhat more complicated because the Portales store was in the middle of its first major remodel in decades, according to a Chamber news release.

Associates are adjusting to the temporary situation even though it’s been stressful for all, the release stated.

Portales Walmart management hopes to be wrapping up its remodeling construction by early November and “be ready in time for a big Black Friday,” the release stated.

Chamber Executive Director Karl Terry and other board members and Chamber ambassadors were on hand to make the presentation to store Manager Kevin Matus and associates from both stores.
