A rural burglary report led to a police chase, a pair of vehicle crashes and two arrests early Wednesday afternoon in Clovis.
Sheriff Mike Reeves said no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Charges against Arthur Martinez, 39, of Clovis, include possession of methamphetamine, felon in possession of a firearm, aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer, possession of stolen property and probation violation from San Miguel County.
Jojo Padilla, 19, of Clovis is charged with aggravated assault upon a peace officer and aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer.
The incident began at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday when Curry County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported burglary in progress at 1709 Prado in Curry County.
According to a Sheriff’s Department news release:
• As deputies spoke to the resident, two vehicles fled from the property. A pursuit ensued with a Monte Carlo that fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
• As that vehicle was pursued north on Norris Street approaching Mabry Drive, it “disregarded the red light” and was involved in a crash with a pickup truck in the intersection of Mabry and Norris.
• The driver fled on foot, but was soon captured.
• “Simultaneously, the other suspect vehicle that had fled, a white Lincoln, pulled up to the scene at Mabry and Norris. Deputies on scene ordered the vehicle to stop. The driver did not comply and attempted to run over a deputy on foot.
• “A chase ensued with the Lincoln that ended a short distance away when the vehicle lost control.”
Both Martinez and Padilla were being held without bond on Friday in the Curry County Detention Center.
