Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Early voting has been “somewhat underwhelming” for Tuesday’s elections, Curry County Clerk Annie Hogland said late Friday afternoon.
Hogland said 652 early votes had been cast as of Friday. The county has 25,188 registered voters. Curry County had about four times more early votes cast in the 2022 general election.
In Roosevelt County, Clerk Mandi Park said 458 voters cast ballots early, though early voting continued Saturday. Roosevelt has 10,800 registered voters. The general election last year saw about twice as many early voters in Roosevelt County, newspaper archives show.
Two years ago, Curry County had 531 early votes through Friday, while Roosevelt County had 179.
Election Day is Tuesday with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout the state. Same-day voter registration is available on Tuesday.
Most communities have contested races, including two municipal school board spots in Clovis. In Portales, two school board seats are contested along with two city council positions.
School tax questions are also on the ballots in Dora, Portales and Texico. In each case, superintendents have said support will not result in a tax increase.
