Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Veterans Day parade needed more floats and participation

Pride, passion, and support was seen Saturday at the Veterans Day Parade in Clovis – well, that is for those that were in attendance.

The low number of floats this year was sad to see, especially since this is a military town and community.

Yes, it does take effort, time, and a little bit of money to put together a float but that can be done quickly and easily. Do we want to win the trophy? Sure, winning is a basic human instinct. But being prideful and showing our support for those that have fought for and are fighting for our freedom is what is most important.

Without the military personnel, past, present, and future, we wouldn’t be allowed to spend Saturday morning showing our support. It’s so important for us to show our support not only to veterans but also to our military personnel that are serving and to their families. They all make a sacrifice, and showing support could be one thing that could make being in the military a little easier for them.

We pride ourselves on being a military community and I believe that we need to step up, show up, and support all we can. Yes, I do know that things are always happening in support of Cannon Air Force Base, and local veterans organizations but some of those things are exclusive to certain groups. How about we all come together and make the Veterans Day parade as big of an event as the Christmas parade?

Don’t want to mess with putting a float together? Find a local organization, non-profit, student organization, or youth organization and sponsor them to be in the Veterans Day parade. Or volunteer your time to assist the parade organizers. There are all kinds of ways to celebrate and honor our veterans and military personnel.

Let’s all come together and work together as a community to make it the best and let’s show veterans how much we support them and appreciate them and let’s show our current serving military members that we support them as well.

To those that were in attendance, thank you for taking your time out of the day and showing support to our veterans and military members and families.

To those that put floats together, thank you, too.

A big thank you goes out to all that work behind the scenes to organize the Veterans Day parade and to those who work on the day of to pull it off. It is a lot of work and takes some time to make it happen and we need to make it happen in a big and supportive way.

Remember to step up, step out and support always.
