Thunderwolves stymie Hounds for 49-37 win

PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado State-Pueblo used two long runs to take control and limited Eastern New Mexico University’s women to 24 percent shooting from the floor en route to a 49-37 victory over the Greyhounds on Friday night.

ENMU (3-2), playing its third consecutive contest in the Centennial State, converted just 13-of-55 shots overall, including 4-of-21 from 3-point distance, while scoring just 12 points in the final two stanzas.

Junior guard Landri Hudson scored 14 points and junior forward Alisha Little posted her fourth double-double of the early campaign with 10 points and 16 rebounds. She also blocked three shots.

Freshman guard Jaz Salon scored 14 points and went 3-for-6 from 3-point distance for ENMU, but no one else scored more than six points.

The Thunderwolves (3-3), who held the Hounds 32 points under their early-season scoring average, ended a three-game losing streak against ENMU dating to 2014 and evened the all-time series 8-8.

Pueblo converted three 3-pointers and erased a 6-4 deficit with a 13-1 run to build a 17-10 lead at the quarter. The margin grew to 12 points midway through the second frame before ENMU closed the half on a 13-2 surge to pull to 26-25 at the intermission.

Leading by two points, Pueblo held the Hounds to a single free throw over the final seven minutes of the third segment and finished off an 18-3 run to lead by 17 with under two minutes remaining.

ENMU went 4-of-26 (15 percent) in the second half, including 1-for-12 from 3-point range. Pueblo shot 36 percent for the game and converted 13-of-15 free throws.

The Hounds wrapped up the non-conference portion of the schedule – and their second consecutive weekend in Colorado – with a contest at Colorado-Colorado Springs on Saturday night. They open Lone Star Conference play on Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. tipoff against St. Edward’s at Greyhound Arena.
