Anna Lu Southard, 86, of Clovis, died November 28.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00pm, Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Steed Todd Chapel in Clovis, New Mexico.
Services will be at 10:00am Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at W. 21st Church of Christ, Troy Oliver officiating, with grandsons Jordan Bean, Payton Bean, Jaxon Bean, Reagan Southard, Glen Southard, Justin Balkun and Marc Solis serving as pallbearers.
She was born December 1, 1936, to Glen and Lillian Bost in Lindsey, OK.
She graduated from Field High School north of Melrose in 1954, where she played basketball and softball. She attended Eastern New Mexico University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1958. She later returned to ENMU for an Elementary Education degree and a Master of Special Education.
She married William W. Southard in 1957.
She taught school in Artesia, Floyd, Portales, Pratt, KS and finally Texico, where she taught elementary and junior high English and served as the junior high school principal from 1985 to 1995.
After her retirement, she devoted herself to caring for her parents and grandchildren. She raised Charolais cattle, Suffolk sheep and farm fowl. She also worked at the Main Street Crafters' Mall.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by three children, Greg (Mary) of Clovis, Pamela Bean (Monty) of Abernathy, TX and Brette (Jamie) of Littlefield, TX. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
She was a member of West 21st Street Church of Christ.
