Steers land five on all-district offense

FARWELL – Five members of the Farwell Steers were chosen to the first-team offense in District 1-2A Division I football selections.

Junior Jonathan Armstrong was made it at quarterback, senior Corey Stancell was selected at running back, junior Lucas Nicolas and senior Jorge Vasquez were tabbed in the offensive line and junior Ryder McElroy earned a spot a wide receiver.

Named to the second team were sophomore Chris Reyes in the line and Wilbourn at both wide receiver and kicker.

Farwell had no first-teamers on defense, but the Steers did have five representatives on the second team – Reyes and Vasquez in the line, McElroy and Wilbourn at linebacker and Stancell at defensive back.

Junior Alonzo Lozano was Farwell’s representative in selections for utility players.

The Steers finished the season 8-4 overall, including 3-2 in district play. They reached the second round of the 2A D-I players, where they were eliminated by Sonora.

Stratford’s Bryce Braden was named the district Most Valuable Player, while Panhandle’s Broxton Robinson and Julio Valdez were chosen MVPs on offense and defense, respectively.
