Obituary: Mary B Mayfield

Mary B Mayfield, age 85, of Tucumcari, NM passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023.

Mary was born on September 29, 1938, to Hugh Barnard Bonds and Alta Austa Graham Bonds in Tucumcari, NM. On May 27, 1956, Mary married Clifton J Mayfield in Tucumcari. Throughout her life, Mary was a school bus driver, cafeteria worker, social worker, city commissioner, and was the first female mayor of Tucumcari. Mary was also a member of First Baptist Church of Tucumcari.

Survivors include her children; James "JR" (Marcia) Mayfield of Midland, TX, and Christina (Chris) Wilson of Tucumcari, NM, grandchildren; Clifton "CJ" (Brianne) Mayfield of Glendale Heights, IL, Rebecca (Justin) Henry of White, GA, and Hannah (Rico) Rodriquez of Santa Rosa, FL, siblings; Hugh Bonds of Farmington, MO, and Anna Street of Tucumcari, NM, great grandchildren; Lexi, Josie and Jon Mayfield of Glendale Heights, IL, Caleb and Aubrey Henry of White, GA, and Michael David and Harmoney of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, sisters-in-law; Ruby Bonds of Tucumcari, NM, Sue Mayfield of Amarillo, TX, and Ollie Ruth Williams of Wister, OK, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Hugh and Alta Bonds, husband; Clifton J. Mayfield, brothers: Bob, Bill, Jim and Mike Bonds, sisters; Austa Johnson, Betty Moore, Dorthy Parks, and Lucille Strope, daughter-in-law: Edith Mayfield, and son-in-law: George Wilson, along with brothers and sisters-in-law.

Cremation has taken place and services will be scheduled for a later date.
