ROSWELL – Clovis High’s girls picked up early pins from juniors Zulehiry Mendoza and Yocelyn Romero and went on to post a 36-24 District 4-5A wrestling victory over Roswell High on Thursday night.
Mendoza defeated Lady Coyotes junior Star Boardman by second-period fall at 107 pounds, while Romero scored a pin in the first minute against sophomore Kyliah Stewart at 126.
Forfeit winners for the Lady Wildcats were sophomores Sophie Collazo at 138 and sophomore Sunnay Ward at 145, junior Jaylyn Trujillo at 185 and freshman Guadalupe Guzman at 152. Roswell High, which also received three forfeits, picked up a win on the mat from junior Brittaney Macias over senior Cerena Fullerton by first-period pin at 120.
Roswell High took down the Wildcats 54-18 in the boys dual. Winners for the Cats were eighth-grader Julian Pollard, by first-period pin over eighth-grader Graysen Nichols at 114 pounds; junior Rhiley Williams, by second-period pin over sophomore Antinee Graham at 152, and eighth-grader Antonio Pena, by forfeit at 121.
Clovis girls were back in action on Friday night in the Pinto Invitational at Moriarty, while both squads were slated to compete on Saturday in the Sierra Blanca Invite at Ruidoso. The teams’ final district duals are set for Thursday night at Hobbs.
