FARWELL – Farwell’s basketball teams ran away from Amarillo Highland Park in District 3-2A action on Friday night, with the boys winning 71-17 and the girls rolling 78-11.
In the boys’ tilt, the Steers (14-9 overall) rolled to a 41-11 halftime lead, putting three players in double figures for the game – junior Ryder McElroy (18) and seniors Cesar Snyder (13) and Corey Stancell (10) – in the district opener for both squads. Senior Ben Hoe led the Hornets (7-14).
Meantime, the Lady Blue (22-3, 3-0 district), ranked second this week in Class 2A by MaxPreps, overwhelmed the Lady Hornets (2-18, 0-3) with 61 first-half points. Senior Chloee Whitten led Farwell with a season-best 17 points, while juniors Makylee Baldwin (16), Bella Jaime (15) and Natalie Wade (11) also reached double digits.
In other boys action in District 3-2A:
Bovina 60, Boys Ranch 30 – At Boys Ranch, the Mustangs (9-13, 1-0 District) snapped a three-game losing streak, dominating the Roughriders (4-10, 0-1) through a first half which ended with a 36-9 advantage.
Senior Yandel DeLeon scored 15 points and senior Daniel Herrera added 13 for the Mustangs. Bovina delivered seven 3-point baskets, including three by Herrera and two by senior Andrew Garcia.
Boys Ranch was paced by eight points from senior Ethan Rex.
CCS boys post win – Clovis Christian rode seven 3-pointers and a personal-best 23 points from freshman Brock Teune to a 52-30 win on Friday at Hart. The Eagles (7-6), playing their first game since Dec. 18, built a 28-13 halftime lead and kept the Longhorns (6-8) at bay the rest of the contest.
Senior Jaden Martinez added 16 points for CCS while senior Noah McKay added a trio of 3s and finished with nine points. Alejandro Gonzalez paced Hart with 10 points.
Meantime, the CCS girls returned to action for the first time since Dec. 18 on Thursday in a junior varsity tournament at Lazbuddie. The Lady Eagles (10-1) swept their three-team pool, beating Whitharral’s JV 27-19 and Happy’s JV 39-20, and were slated face Whiteface JV for the championship on Saturday.
Freshman Madisyn Kruckeberg had 10 points and freshman Hannah McKay added nine against Whitharral, and they were the leading scorers again against Happy – McKay with 15 and Kruckeberg with seven.
