LOGAN – Clovis Christian’s girls blanked the Logan junior varsity in the final quarter, but their late rally wasn’t enough and the Lady Longhorns escaped with a 20-18 victory on Saturday.
CCS (10-7) trailed 20-13 entering the final period, but their five-point output left them just short.
Freshman Reese Hastie led Logan JV with eight points, while senior Allison McRaven scored seven for the Lady Eagles.
In another Saturday girls matchup:
Fort Sumner 58, Grady 36 – In District 6-1A play at Grady, the Vixens (16-4, 2-0 district) opened a 20-0 lead at the quarter and pretty much traded baskets with the Lady Bronchos the rest of the way.
Freshman Clayton Boyd netted 14 points and junior Allyssa Casaus added 12 for Fort Sumner, ranked second in Class 1A by MaxPreps. Junior Juanita Ramirez led all scorers with 17 points for Grady (7-7, 0-1).
In boys action on Saturday:
Logan JV 76, Clovis Christian 52 – The Longhorns dropped 15 3-point baskets on the Eagles and rode a big first quarter (21-9) to victory.
Sophomore Rylan Montoya paced Logan JV with 15 points. The Longhorns had nine players contribute at least one 3-pointer.
For CCS (8-9), seniors Noah McKay and Jaden Martinez had 20 and 19 points, respectively, and each nailed a trio of 3s.
Fort Sumner 85, Grady 25 – At Grady, the Class 1A third-ranked Foxes also rained 3-pointers on the opposition, with four players combining for 10 trifectas.
Fort Sumner (16-3, 2-0 district) took a commanding lead with 29 points in each of the first two quarters. Freshman Jordan Holland had four 3s and scored 14 of his 19 points in the second quarter, while 6-foot-7 senior Cash Burney tallied 13 of his 18 in the opening stanza.
Freshman Tra’von Bonds (15), who had three 3s, and senior Joaquin Segura (10), who added two, also reached double digits.
High scorer for the Broncos (7-7, 0-1) was senior Zane Rush with 11 points.
