CCC trustees agree to proceed with roof repairs

The Clovis Community College Board of Trustees on Wednesday agreed to proceed with repairs to widespread roof damage that happened campus-wide during a strong storm the night of May 24 last year.

The cost of the project has been put at over $1.113 million, which will be covered by CCC’s insurance.

The project, to be done by WWRC Complete Construction Services of Clovis, includes the cost of prep work to the campus buildings, sealant, removing and replacing 49 skylights, removing and resetting 10 skylights and other items.

The board also heard of progress in finding and naming a president for CCC.

Robin Jones has been interim president since Charles Nwankwo resigned Feb. 1, 2023.

Trustees Chair Lora Harlan reported the search committee was scheduled to meet Thursday to choose semi-finalists in the search, which has resulted in more than 40 applicants.

On Friday, Harlan declined to provide information about what happened at Thursday’s meeting.

“When the search committee names their five candidates to the Board then we may give their names,” Harlan said.

Officials, including Jones, have repeatedly denied to say whether she is a candidate for the job.

Harlan did not specify how many semi-finalists would be selected by the 17-member search committee.

In other business:

• Jones reported on attending the Legislative dinner in Santa Fe recently.

Dean of Student Services and Government Relations Marcus Smith addressed the meeting saying he also attended the dinner and it was “good to go and connect.”

• Jones reported state Rep. Joy Garratt, D-Bernalillo, is proposing a statewide measure that would raise the pay of adjunct faculty from $700 per credit hour to $1,875 per credit hour.

Jones said such a pay hike “could be problematic” in terms of funding.

• Jones noted CCC will offer free tax help to students, low income and elderly taxpayers Saturdays until April 5.
