Wolverines post win at Pecos

PECOS – Texico broke open a tight game with a dominating fourth quarter on Friday and the Wolverines maintained their spot atop the District 6-2A standings with a 68-54 victory over Pecos.

Leading by a point, Texico (12-10, 3-0 district) outscored the Panthers 22-9 in the final stanza to win going away. Senior Cade Figg, junior Alex Fuentes and freshman Jett Curtis all had 14 points in the victory, with Figg scoring all of his in the second half, including 11 in the final stanza.

For Pecos (14-9, 1-2), junior Adrian Quintana posted a game-high 19 points while senior Joshua Gonzales added 11.

In other Friday boys action:

Farwell 63, Panhandle 54 – At Farwell, the Steers outscored the Panthers 14-5 in overtime and clinched an outright District 3-2A championship with their 11th consecutive victory.

Panhandle took a 49-48 lead on two free throws by junior Dylan Pohlmeier with 13 seconds left. Farwell sophomore Hudson Agee then sent the tilt into OT by converting the first of two foul shots with less than a second remaining.

Junior Ryder McElroy led Farwell (22-9, 9-0), which won its 11th game in a row, with 21 points while senior Corey Stancell had 19 and senior Cesar Snyder 10. Juniors Wesley Kuehler and Caiden Crook and sophomore Broxton Robinson topped the Panthers (16-11, 6-3) with 11 points each, and Pohlmeier added 10.

Elida 57, Floyd 51 – At Floyd, the Tigers kept their lead in District 4-1A with a hard-fought win over their Roosevelt County rivals.

Senior Seth Jimenez tallied 19 points and junior Hardy Fraze had 11 for Elida (12-10, 5-0). Senior Isaias Nieto led the Broncos (7-11, 0-4) with 16 points, followed by 6-foot-5 senior Drew Essary and 6-4 sophomore David Melendez with 10 points apiece.

Bovina 67, Amarillo Highland Park 41 – Senior Miguel Lopez posted two 3-pointers and 24 points to help the Mustangs prevail in District 3-2A action at Bovina.

Sophomore Angel Lara added 15 points and senior Daniel Herrera 13, including three of Bovina's seven 3-pointers. The Mustangs (12-18, 4-5) built a 19-point halftime lead and cruised.

For the visiting Hornets (8-22, 1-8), senior Alex Conway notched 21 points.

In girls tilts on Friday:

Elida 47, Floyd 22 – Freshman Kembri Norman led three Lady Tigers in double figures with 16 points in District 4-1A play at Floyd.

Freshmen Reatta Munsell and Addison Yates chipped in 12 and 11, respectively, for Elida (12-11, 3-2). Junior Nevaeha Brown paced the Lady Broncos (3-15, 1-4) with 13 points.

Pecos 57, Texico 51 – The Lady Wolverines cut a 15-point deficit to five with about two minutes left, but couldn't get any closer in District 6-2A action at Pecos.

Senior Rayne Dimas tossed in 23 points and junior Analiyah Armijo added 13 for the Lady Panthers (16-6, 3-0). Senior Desiree Holman scored 13, sophomore Brylee Burgin 12 and senior Sonia Ortiz 10 for Texico (8-13, 1-2).
