LITTLEFIELD – Farwell’s girls opened Texas Class 2A playoff action on Monday with a dominating 67-28 victory over New Deal.
The Lady Blue (30-3), ranked second in 2A behind Martins Mills and winners of 16 in a row since a loss at Class 5A Amarillo Tascosa in December, advance to a 6 p.m. (CST) area round matchup on Friday against Clarendon (28-2) at West Plains H.S. in Amarillo.
Farwell had no trouble with the Lady Lions (21-15), blowing out to a 39-10 halftime lead. Nine players scored for the Lady Blue, led by junior Bella Jaime with 17 points, senior Kennedi Richey with 15 and junior Makylee Baldwin with 14.
For New Deal, senior Sarah Mondragon tallies 17 points.
In other area girls action on Monday:
Fort Sumner JV 55, Clovis Christian 39 – At Fort Sumner, the Vixens drained 10 3-point baskets, including four by senior Cynthia Chavez, who finished with a game-high 20 points, and three by freshman Hattie Norman, who tallied 12.
Fort Sumner JV erased a one-point deficit, outscoring the Lady Eagles 19-11 in the second quarter. Freshman Hannah McKay netted 13 points, including a pair of 3s, and senior Allison McRaven added nine for the Lady Eagles (11-9).
In a boys contest:
Fort Sumner JV 51, Clovis Christian 48 – Senior Jett Vick had 16 points and junior Kaden May 11 as the Foxes held off CCS.
Freshman Brock Teune scored a personal-best 25 points and senior Noah McKay had 14 for the Eagles. Both players made four 3-point baskets.
