Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The New Mexico Congressional Delegation announced Thursday that the Clovis Regional Airport will receive $3.5 million in federal funds to help with design and construction costs of a new terminal building.
U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Luján, along with U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernández, Melanie Stansbury, and Gabe Vasquez helped with the over $9 million in funding from the Infrastructure Law.
The Albuquerque International Sunport will receive $5.8 million for upgrades to in-line baggage systems, hold rooms, and terminal interior and exterior spaces.
““I’m proud to welcome over $9 million from the Infrastructure Law to modernize the Albuquerque Sunport and Clovis Regional Airport, improve travelers’ experiences, and drive our state’s economic growth for the future,” Heinrich said in a press release.
“Our state’s airports play a crucial role in bolstering local economies and serving as transportation hubs. That’s why investing in New Mexico’s airports is essential to improve travel and boost economic opportunities,” said Lujan.
“This investment,” said Leger Fernández, “will help New Mexicans be more connected, create new jobs, and help our communities grow.”
Leger Fernández added that she met with Clovis Mayor Mike Morris earlier this year, and how the Clovis Regional Airport is important to the military community at Cannon Air Force Base.
“I am happy that these federal funds will soon help them spend more time with their families thanks to Clovis Regional’s expansion,” she said.
