ARTESIA – Artesia’s boys swept the three doubles divisions and the Bulldogs edged Clovis High 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon.
Artesia also won the girls clash by a 6-3 count.
Artesia’s boys posted a pair of third-set super-tiebreaker wins in the boys dual, including a 3-6, 6-3, (10-5) decision at No. 1 doubles with sophomores Cutter Summers and Damian Lopez outlasting the Wildcats’ Landon Wolf and Cooper Harriman, and a 5-7, 6-2, (10-8) verdict for senior Ethan Bunt over Cats eighth-grader Ryan Case at No. 6 singles.
In doubles, the Bulldogs also got a 7-5, 6-4 victory from junior Alexander Madrid and sophomore Jackson Hollinger over senior Adam Dixon and senior Christian Wilson at No. 2, and earned a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win at No. 3 from Bunt and freshman Paul Miller over junior Jackson Rossi and Case.
Clovis went 4-2 in singles, with winners including Wolf, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 over Summers; junior Francesco Dell-Edera, 6-2, 7-5 over junior Alejandro Madrid at No. 3; Dixon, 6-4, 7-5 over Hollinger at No. 4, and Wilson, 6-7, 6-2, (10-8) over freshman Joshua Vasquez Martinez at No. 6. Artesia’s other singles triumph came from Lopez, 6-4, 7-6 (7-0) over Harriman at No. 2.
The Lady Wildcats went 2-4 in singles and 1-2 in doubles, with junior Madita Ewert and sophomore Leonnie Mueller taking a 3-6 7-6 (7-3), (10-4) win over junior Korinne Morrison and freshman Abigail Jowers at No. 3 doubles. Artesia prevailed at No. 1 doubles with sophomores Kirklyn Miller and Adrienne Harvey defeating junior Hansini Lingala and senior Hannah Heath 6-0, 6-0, and at No. 2 doubles with juniors Anna Netherlin and Peyton Stone topping sophomores Gigi Greer and Emily Bjorklund 7-5, 6-3.
In singles, Lady Cats winners were Heath at No. 3, beating Netherlin 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), (10-4), and Bjorklund at No. 5, downing Jowers 6-3, 6-3.
Winners in singles for the Lady Bulldogs were Miller at No. 1, beating Ewert 6-4, 6-2; Harvey at No. 2, winning over Lingala 6-4, 6-2; Stone at No. 4, topping Gigi Greer 6-4, 2-6, (10-4), and Morrison at No. 6, besting eighth-grader Stella Greer 7-5, 6-1.
The Cats and Lady Cats were in Hobbs for a tournament over the weekend. They travel to Lovington for duals starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
