Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
State Sen. Greg Nibert will have two opponents in the June 4 Republican primary while Curry and Roosevelt County Commission seats will also be contested.
Filing date for the primary was last Tuesday. Write-in candidates can still file this Tuesday.
Nibert, appointed by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham earlier this year to succeed longtime Sen. Stuart Ingle, R-Portales, will face competition from Roswell’s Larry Marker and Elida’s Pat Boone.
No Democrats filed to run for the District 27 Senate seat, so it will likely be decided in June.
In county races, former Melrose school Superintendent Jamie Widner filed to run against incumbent Seth Martin for the Curry County Commission District 4 seat.
Four Republicans signed up to run for the District 2 position on the Roosevelt County Commission:
August Cooper, Malin Parker, James Hamilton and Jarryd Burris.
In Roosevelt County’s race for Commission District 1, Fabian Munoz will be unopposed in the Republican primary but will face off against Democrat Jake Lopez in November.
Primary elections are scheduled June 4, with early voting beginning May 7.
The general election is Nov. 5.
