Obituary: Anita Perez Escamilla

March 15, 1950 - March 13, 2024

Anita Perez Escamilla, 73, of Dimmitt, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, in Dimmitt, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 10:00 AM with Celebrant David Contreras and Deacons John Nino and Richard Martinez officiating. Graveside services will follow at Elida Cemetery, in Elida, New Mexico, at 1:00 PM. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt, Texas. A viewing will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 3:00-7:00 PM and the rosary to begin at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Anita was born on March 15, 1950, in Pecos, Texas, to Hilario Reyes Perez and Elvira Ornelas Perez. Anita attended public school in Saragosa, Texas. Hilario and Elvira brought Anita and her siblings to the Maple, Texas, community. Anita's firstborn child, Aida Perez, was born in August of 1966. In 1968, while living in Maple, she met Tomas V. Escamilla, and they started their lives together. They were blessed with a daughter, Marie, born in November of 1968. Anita and Tomas eventually moved the family to Portales, New Mexico. Anita has been a resident of Dimmitt, Texas, since 2018. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Dimmitt, Texas. She loved to cook, visit, and socialize with everyone, never meeting a stranger. Anita was fond of talking on the phone, shopping, and decorating for every season, but above all this, her greatest love and joy were her children and grandchildren. Anita's presence, smile, and laughter will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Marie Y. Rivera and her husband Sal of Dimmitt, Texas, and Aida Perez Cruz and her husband Luis of Flint, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Erica Perez and her husband Ricky Dominguez of Troup, Texas, Jessica Ortiz of Jacksonville, Texas, and Frank Rios and his wife Canna of Tyler, Texas; 11 great-grandchildren, Lillianna, Noah, Amelia Anna Marie, and Hazy Perez all of Troup, Texas, Abbigail and Alliyah Perez of Jacksonville, Texas, Kaleb, Bentlee, Isiah, Zack and Eli Rios all of Tyler, Texas; her siblings, Concepcion Perez of Portales, New Mexico, and Rudy Perez of Clovis, New Mexico, Dolores Hernandez of Phoenix, Arizona, Emma Cumpian and her husband David of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Lidia Salinas of Muleshoe, Texas.

Anita is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Tomas Escamilla, a brother, Hilario Reyes Perez, Jr., and 3 sisters, Maria Ornelas, Erminia Zapata, and Guadalupe Perez.
