PORTALES – Four members of the Portales High Lady Rams basketball team have been chosen for All-District 4-4A first-team honors.
Named to the 12-player squad were senior guard Audrey Paden, junior guards Myleigh Banda and Angel Ornelas and junior forward Evannie Fulfer. Portales finished the season with a 20-9 record after losing to Gallup 66-56 last week in the Class 4A state quarterfinals at The Pit in Albuquerque.
Other first-teamers were seniors Lorin Wagner and Kymber Beltran, junior Hattie Harrison and sophomore Jenna Whitmire of Artesia; senior Liz Buendia and sophomore Malaiya Castro of Lovington and senior Addycen Luck of Roswell Goddard.
Two other PHS players, junior guard Tya Rippee and sophomore forward Skyler Massey, were accorded honorable mention status.
Lady Rams coach Wade Fraze also announced that Paden has been selected to play for the Green squad in the New Mexico High School Coaches Association Class 3-4A Red vs. Green all-star game, scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday at Volcano Vista H.S. in Albuquerque.
District 6-1A squads announced – Seven players from Melrose and four from Grady have been named to All-District 6-1A squads.
For the girls, seniors Graci Odom and Karlee Elliott and junior Kinley Bradley represented the Lady Buffs, while senior Taylor Foote and junior Juanita Ramirez were chosen for the Lady Bronchos.
Boys honorees include juniors Cy Draper, Josiah Roybal, Brayden Eldridge and Chance Brittenum for Melrose, and senior Zane Rush and freshman Zander Ciancio for Grady.
Rounding out the girls’ squad were Allyssa and Emmarie Casaus, Brooke Layton and Sienna Segura of Fort Sumner, and Desta Rose, Hailee Robertson, Camryn Cantrell, Lizzy Horner and Laramee Shields of Logan.
The rest of the boys squad included Fort Sumner’s Cash Burney, Joaquin Segura, Jordan Holland, Tra’von Bonds and Aaron Torres, and Logan’s Brock Burns, Hayden Bruhn and Mason Walliin.
