CANYON, Texas – Eastern New Mexico University’s women recorded several top three finishes over the weekend in the WT Spring Open, the outdoor track opener hosted by West Texas A&M.
ENMU put four runners into scoring positions in the 400, led by freshman Helena Klutsey-Carboo, second in 57.33 seconds. Placing sixth through eighth for the Greyhounds were sophomore Meghan Rodriguez (1 minute, 2.63 seconds), freshman Mariana Marquez (1:02.52) and senior Sevannah Romero (1:04.87).
Sophomore Riley Midgett ran 26.59 for sixth in the 200, while freshman Ambrosia Francis came in tied for seventh in 26.62. Midgett also tied for seventh in the 100 at 12.60.
In field events, freshman Deziree Bosquez won in javelin at 126 feet, 3 inches, while senior Tamia Smith was second in shot put (45 feet, ¼ inch) and sixth in hammer (141-11). Meantime, freshman Deziree Bosquez took first in javelin in her ENMU debut at 126-3, while sophomore Kennedy Ulmer was third at 123-8.
In Friday’s only event – discus – Ulmer was fourth at 131-8 and freshman Samantha Medina placed eighth at 121-8.
For the men, junior Hemon Joseph took second place in javelin at 175-8, while junior Jude Murray was fifth (144-5) and freshman Devin Gallegos sixth (136-5). Freshman Kooper Ellis finished sixth in hammer at 134-6, followed by sophomore Noa Ybaben-Burciaga in seventh at 133-6, while sophomore Luis Holguin tied for sixth in pole vault (12-11 ½) and Noa Ybaben-Burciaga was eighth in shot put (44-2).
ENMU athletes return to action this weekend in the Willie Williams Classic, hosted on Friday and Saturday by the University of Arizona in Tucson.
