Clovis woman charged with embezzlement

A Clovis woman has been charged with embezzling an estimated $9,500 from Hotel Clovis where she was a manager at the apartment complex.

Court records allege Angela Arguello, 45, stole rent money and deposit checks between June 2023 and last month.

Heather Babcock, the social services coordinator for Hotel Clovis, told police that a total of 18 payments had not been deposited to the complex’s bank. When Arguello was questioned about the missing money, “she couldn’t come up with answers to the questions, then she started to ‘violently become ill’ and went home for the day,’” according to an affidavit for arrest warrant.

Arguello has since resigned from the job, records show.

Arguello was booked into the Curry County jail on Wednesday morning. She was released on $1,500 cash bond that night.

She could not be reached for comment.
